YOU be the author!

You say you didn’t like the ending for the booSarah Bishopk Sarah Bishop by Scott O’Dell?  It’s your Number the Starsturn to write an alternate ending!  Or, if you liked the ending, then you may write the beginning to a sequel.

Another choice: You may predict how Number the Stars is going to end.

Seven WondersYou want to write in a different genre?  How about creating an eighth wonder for The Seven Wonders of Sassafrass Springs by Betty Birney?!

“I took careful aim at the vicious snake.” It flicked it’s black tongue at me, then I remembered the page that Isaac tore from his bible. I said it out loud, “Whosoever shall smight thee on thy right cheek, shall turn to him the other also.” Then I remembered the Bible verse I believed in, then thought about it and shot the ground right next to the snake to give it a warning not to bite me again or else. As I walked away from where I saw the copperhead snake I looked back and saw lights. The lights were coming from Ridge Ford. “I haven’t seen these lights in a long time.” “I think Isaac is cute but I like living on my own.”

    Number the Stars
    Ending

I think that the book ”Number the Stars” will end this way: After the Jewish New Year is over, the Johansens will leave the uncle’s house to go back to their regular home. Then soon they will find out that Ellen’s parents are safe and they have been back for a while and it was safe to be back home again. So the next day they went back to school and they saw two German officers outside guarding just in case. When they walked by,one of them looked at her in a weired way When they both got home they told Ellen’s mom what had happened. Then they herd a knock on the door. OPEN UP,the voice said,it was a German officer. Mama opened the door. Move,he said. Then he grabbed me by the hair and took me away. They through me in a train. Then in the corner of the train room I saw my mama and daddy. The German solder was standing in the corner of the train car. The German solder said we were being relocated to a better place were there is more room in the new apartment. Soon the train came to a big bumpy stop. It was very quite. Then the train car door opened. It was the solders again, they said to get out. We got out and saw a big building. Someone from the crowd said, this isn’t a better apartment. The officer said to be quite. But he didn’t. So the solder took him away. I was scared, so I grabbed mama’s hand as hard as I could. But right when I did the solder took me away by the arm. My mama was crying and so was my daddy. They took my parents the opposite way that they took me. I know new that their was no turning back and no such things as happy endings.

    Number the Stars

I think that Ellen is going to get caught by the soldiers. I think that because they won’t be able to hide it forever. Then maybe the soldiers will catch her hugging her parents and know that she is a Jew. If she gets caught then Annemarie’s family might get in trouble because they lied to the soldiers and then their parents might get sent to jail and would probably kill Ellen and her parents. If Ellen puts her necklace on and goes outside or walks around with it on outside, then the soldiers could be anywhere and might see her wearing it. Then the soldiers will take Ellen and probally kill her and maybe ask her where her parents are and she might not know where they are and then they will probably kill her.

    Number The Stars
    what i think will happen

I think that at the end of ‘Number The Stars’ Ellen will get caught because eventually the soldiers will either find the necklace or find her parents. (It is bad if the soldiers find the necklace because it has a symbol of Jewish…the Jewish star.) Annemarie and her parents will probably try to pretend that she is their daughter. I think that eventually something will go wrong. When and if the soldiers do find out that Ellen’s family is Jewish then Annemarie definitely will get in trouble and something bad will happen.

    Alternative ending to Sarah Bishop:

It was still storming outside. I had my musket cocked. Then I decided to shoot Mr. Morton. Then, I pointed my musket
at him, aimed, and fired! Right through his head! Next thing you know I was out the window. I was running as fast as
I could. They stopped chasing me at the end of Ridgeford. I got back to my cave. The muskrat was there, and Gabriel
was back. The next day I went down to the pond. I saw the snake again. I ran to the cave, and got my musket. When I
got back the snake was still there. Then I got my musket loaded and fired. I got it! I went to the cave packed my things,
and fled to another place with Gabriel, and the muskrat.

    Alternate ending to Sarah Bishop:

I invited Isaac over to my home in the cave. He and I saw the 3-pawed muskrat and its baby, which was almost full grown by now. I made Isaac a blanket made of deer skin stuffed with goose feathers. I cooked some trout over an open log fire. Isaac fell asleep shortly after that, and I followed. When we awoke, the fire was still burning, red and alive. Gabriell, the bat, came back and fell asleep.

I showed Isaac how to fish properly. While we were fishing, he would tell me aout how good his mother was, and how sad it was the day she died of a horse accident. “It was a dreadful sight, seeing my mother’s own limp, dead arm hanging over the checkrain, the dead horse flipped on top of her,” he would say. Isaac caught a fish, and it splashed. When we brought it to shore, we discovered a hungry, lazy bear looking for something to eat. He took a glance at the trout half dead on the ground, still hooked to Isaac’s pole. The bear ran toward us in an effort to get that fish. We both made the struggle to get the fish out of of Isaac’s tangled pole. We dropped it, and Isaac grabbed my hand, and we dashed toward the cave. I closed the door behind me, and there was a deep silence. “Was thee afraid?” asked Isaac, breaking through the silence. I pondered a bit.

“Was thee afraid, Sarah Bishop?” repeated Isaac.

“Yes,” I said. But once I said it, I knew it was a lie. Things happened too quickly. I was only focused on staying with Isaac. “No,” I said. “But thanks.”

“Thee is welcome.” Isaac told me. I noticed the soft tone in Isaac’s voice. “I must go, Sarah Bishop.” He looked out the door to see if the bear was gone, quickly kissed my cheek, and strode to the door. He stopped there. “Thee is welcome to my house.” He left with that.

Two years passed and Isaac and I married. We decided to stay in my cave. I bought a new shiny silver dress and new slippers. Life was treating us well.
